AI and LMS: the impact of AI on corporate training

AI and LMS: the impact of AI on corporate training

To remember

Summary

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into learning management systems (LMS) is revolutionizing corporate training by offering personalized and adaptive learning paths, thus improving the efficiency and engagement of employees.

Unless you have been living in seclusion for 5 years without access to information, you are surely aware of the rise of artificial intelligence in all sectors of activity. Creative jobs, the industrial sector, tourism, health... Nobody cuts it!

And training is no exception. In recent years, she has seen AI develop and gain momentum in the learning sector. So what is the impact on vocational training? How to adopt it in your organization? Does your Learning Management System (LMS) offer artificial intelligence features? We have studied the subject for you!

Artificial intelligence in training: what is it?

The AI revolution in 2023

On November 30, 2023, ChatGPT celebrated its first birthday. While many saw artificial intelligence as a fashion trend, it is now very present in our daily lives and in any profession.

In graphic design, Dall.E or Midjourney creates visuals based on a few sentences. For writing articles, Jasper.ai or Redaction.io manage to generate complete blog posts (but not this one, don't worry!). In the music industry, some hits were composed by AIs.

In short, artificial intelligence is everywhere. And it is intriguing, as much as it is scary, with this fateful question: will AI eliminate our jobs? This debate, while interesting, is not the subject of this article. But one thing is certain: it is at the heart of all debates! So what about the human resources and training sector?

Adopting AI for your advanced training strategy

For training, it's a bit different. Many training managers are still not quite comfortable with the idea of integrating artificial intelligence into their educational journey.

Why? In fact, for a number of reasons. In particular, they talk about:

  • a lack of control over the results obtained after generating content using AI.
  • the poor quality of content generated by AI.
  • content that is not very scalable or not very adaptable.

And yet, artificial intelligence, when properly exploited, offers many advantages! But its complete mastery often requires extensive training for administrators or trainers.

Learn to master AI to generate quality content

Artificial intelligence offers its full potential when the human in control guides it perfectly towards a specific objective. To do this, you have to learn how to generate optimized instructions (or “prompts”).

Here are some instructions you can follow to create your first prompt:

  1. Give as much context as possible: who? What? Why?
  2. Describe yourself to the AI so that it can put itself in your skin. Are you a training manager, trainer or administrator? What is the level of learners of the training to be created?
  3. What format do you want for this content (tone, number of words, modules and sub-modules...)?
  4. Be as specific as possible! For example, write “Find me 5 training topics of 4 modules each on the topic of sales in the construction sector”, rather than “Find me training ideas for construction.”

And that's it! You are ready to write your first prompt for an AI. Don't forget to adjust the AI responses or add some additional elements. Quality content is the winning combination of AI and humans.

How is AI changing the educational approach in business?

Adaptive learning, or personalization of training courses

THEAdaptive learningIt's a bit like intelligent training which we all thought about when AI arrived in the apprenticeship sector. This new teaching method is based on neuroscience and data analysis to allow AI toadapt training content.

Thanks to numerous algorithms, AI will analyze the behavior of the learner and offer him modules, courses or developments adapted to his progress. Moreover, this 100% personalized approach makes it possible to offer content adapted to the needs or career plan of the employee.

Collaborative engagement and learning

One of the biggest fears of training managers about AI comes from a well-established idea: the machine will replace the human and eliminate all interactions. It's not true!

AI will, of course, eliminate certain interactions by automatically creating content according to the needs surveyed from learners. But she also goes Generate new ones ! One LMS equipped with artificial intelligence will for example be able to recommend profiles similar or complementary to that of the learner. By doing so, learners will be able to exchange with each other on the platform and develop their skills more quickly.

AI can also call on internal experts on certain topics if it feels there is an emerging need on the learner's side.

Data Management and Analysis

The economic landscape is becoming more and more competitive. The race for productivity is raging among businesses, and training is becoming an essential issue to stay in the race. We will have to learn about a lot of subjects, and very quickly.

This means that module generation will be industrialized. Humans will soon no longer be able to create all this content alone. This is where artificial intelligence comes in. Thanks to data management and analysis, she will be able to create entire training catalogs in just a few seconds. Companies that know how to take this turn will then become much more competitive than those that continue to create each module manually.

But again, creating a precise and optimized prompt is essential for the generation of this content. Man and AI will then work hand in hand!

Examples of concrete use of AI in training

Integrating artificial intelligence into your vocational training doesn't just mean adding a chatbot or a suggested answer to your exercises. Much more advanced functionalities will be offered to you by the AI... But you still have to know how to use it! We give you some concrete examples of the application of AI in your business.

AI-assisted course design

Integrating AI into your business does not necessarily mean generating ALL of your content automatically. You can also rely on AI to develop module templates, and facilitate the work of trainers.

Thus, your “expert” employees no longer have to create training courses from A to Z, but only complement them with their expertise. They then pass on their knowledge and get back to work more quickly. A real time and cost saver for the company!

Transforming the know-how of your employees into training modules

Some LMSs offer a very interesting AI feature: that of converting traditional documents into training modules.

Nothing complicated for you! All you have to do is import the learning material into the tool, and let it do the work. The AI will “read” the content, identify the main themes and sub-themes, and draw training modules from it.

Your training managers no longer have to manually convert your old training materials: the AI takes care of it for you!

Fast skills analysis and smart recommendations

One of the main benefits of AI is its ability to quickly analyze and manage a large volume of data. When humans took several days to synthesize evaluation results, AI now only takes a few seconds to deliver you a complete report.

But it goes further! Some LMS offer to analyze learners' skills thanks to the modules and quizzes completed. The platform then recommends skills according to the position or the learner's progress.

For example, when the employee enters “Marketing Manager” in their job title, the AI will be able to complete the “Marketing Strategy”, “Team Management” and “Sales Techniques” skills by itself. Once again, AI is replacing humans on time-consuming and non-value-added tasks. But the training manager will always have to carry out monthly skills assessments with his employees.

Skills development and personalized course catalogs

Faced with these skill suggestions, the LMS will be in a position to offer personalized course catalogs. These courses adapted to the learner's profile ensure better progress and faster skills development.

The retention rate of your teams will automatically be better, and the overall performance of the company will improve.

What are the benefits of AI in vocational training?

Reduction of training time and optimization of resources

The main advantage of AI for the training of your employees is its ability to offer personalized training courses. This means that the learner reaches his goals more quickly and therefore spends less time training. It is therefore more quickly operational at its workstation!

This ensures a better return on investment in training for the company, and increased performance of your employees. AI therefore makes it possible to optimize your financial and human resources (including trainers and learners).

More accurate assessment of skills

Thanks to its great capacity to collect and analyze data, AI makes it possible to visualize the global and specific needs of your teams. It therefore creates content adapted to the needs of learners. Artificial intelligence also makes it possible to refine existing content, and therefore to capitalize on your old teaching materials. Once again, this is a significant time saver!
